Southbank Modernisation Heading to 2032

The Queensland Government has proposed a draft master plan for a significant upgrade of South Bank to modernise the precinct ahead of the 2032 Olympics. The Future South Bank Draft Master Plan proposes seven vision ideas to help guide the evolution of South Bank.

If approved, some of the upgrades to the 1.2km long rivers edge promenade include, prioritisation of people and active transport over cars on Grey Street, pedestrianising Little Stanley Street, expanding the core parkland including enlarging the lagoon experience, a new cultural corridor on Glenelg Street, cultural forecourt overall with new underground restaurants as well as a ‘world-class maritime precinct’ with new museum building on the southern side.

1. The Promenade: Queensland’s best riverside experience

2. Parkland Core: quintessentially Queensland

3. Little Stanley Street: parkland to plate

4. Destination Grey Street: turning Grey Street green

5. Glenelg Spine: cultural corridor

6. Northern Gateway: where the world meets Brisbane

7. Southern Gateway: a world class maritime precinct
